What is a Haunting?

A haunting is a paranormal event that includes the appearance or visitation of disembodied spirits, supernatural beings, or events and actions that reoccur at a specific place. The four most common types of haunting's are Residual, Intelligent, Poltergeist, and Demonic.

Below we outline those four types.

Residual Haunting?

The most common haunting is a residual haunting. Residual haunting's is a remnant of a past event that occurred at or near a specific location that resulted in someones death normally in a traumatic manner. Normally the spirits do not interact with those witnessing this haunting energy.  A common example is hearing footsteps in a house that someone may have died in. Seeing the apparition of said persons is also possible. These scenes and sounds are repeated over and over again in a reoccurring pattern and often at specific times like they appear to be "frozen" in time. Old buildings, battlefields, and homes are commonplace for this activity. Generally speaking these haunts cause no concern for harm to anyone who may witness them.

Intelligent Haunting?

The Most traditional of haunting's is the Intelligent haunting. The term "Intelligent" is used because the spirit will be aware and able to communicate, interact, and respond to the living person interacting with it. The most common types of activities that occur during an Intelligent Haunting is objects moving, hearing a intelligent voice or response, and sending non verbal signals. Normally an Intelligent Haunting is an indication that someone has not moved on. The reasons these spirits remain can vary but normally are directly connected to family, loved ones, or friends. Most living people report activity from these haunting's occurring late at night normally between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. but can occur during daylight hours also. Mediums are often used to help communicate with these spirits and to help them move on. The hope is helping them solve any unfinished business will help them to do so.

Poltergeist Haunting?

"Noisy ghosts" in the German language "poltern," and "geist," hence "poltergeist," is where this term originates from. These types of haunting's normally involve objects moving, being hidden, or thrown. Electronic device interference, physical attacks, and other events can occur as well.  Although ghosts can cause these events to occur other things such as psychokinesis also has been believed to be a culprit. Psychokinesis is  the ability or power to move objects with the mind. If this is the cause of a haunting normally the individual doing it will be unaware and or unconscious. Normally brought on by physical stress or emotional distress these individuals will believe the activity is a haunting rather than a self manifested event.  Poltergeist haunting's previously have been associate with young girls however can still happen to anyone. These haunting's will be either/or playful and malicious. If the intent is malicious, objects might be placed in such a way that could cause harm and extreme caution should be taken to protect yourself and others. The haunting's will normally start out slowly and increase in intensity until it reaches its peak at which time the activity will slow or the situation could become critically dangerous. This is when the occurrences can be the most dangerous.

Demonic Haunting?

Break you down. Demonic haunting's have one goal and that is for the Demonic entity to break the free will of the individual being affected so that it may take over, possess, or injure the individual. Demons can attach to homes, objects, and people. These types of haunting's also tend to start off mild in intensity. Over time the innocent or non-threatening activity will begin to worsen. Moving furniture, doors slamming shut, lights turning on and off can and often quickly turn into more devious action.  The demon may begin to show itself as a dark shadow or as a benevolent spirit. Once the Demonic presence has fully exposed itself physical violence can become the largest of concerns with changing temperatures, foul odors, and heavy feelings being smaller but just as important concerns. Demons may shape shift, try to convince the person it has left, or transfer itself from one animal, person, or object to another. Demonic presences gain their strength from the individuals fear, weakness, or panic. When a demonic haunting has reached this critical level a possession is most likely and common. Common signs of possession include but are not limited to: the possessed individual becoming fluent in many languages, speaks in tongues, gaining knowledge in subjects they were not educated in before. If you are coping with this type of haunting it is critical for you to reach out for help immediately with a paranormal team, a church, or a exorcist.
